I discussed this issue with the technicians of a few HVAC companies near me and learned the following.
- The thermostat setting may be incorrect
Make sure your thermostat is properly set to cool as the first item to check. You will be really shocked to find how frequently this setting gets disturbed.
Next, make sure your fan is on AUTO mode rather than ON. In this manner, the fan will only turn on when cool air can be blown.
- The outdoor unit must have lost power
Your air conditioning system is consisting of two different units:
- Indoor unit: This indoor unit will blow air throughout your home.
- Outdoor unit: This unit is responsible for cooling the air down.
So, in case your indoor unit has started blowing warm air inside your house, it could be due to missing power in your outdoor unit and hence cannot cool the air down.
- Your refrigerant level must be low
Your unit’s refrigerant levels may be low if your air conditioner releases warm air. This often denotes a refrigerant leak in your system.
If that is the case, your air conditioner will keep running and blow heated air in an effort to match the thermostat setting.
- Your evaporator coils may be too dirty
The evaporator coils in your air conditioner are crucial to how well it functions, therefore it is important to keep them clean so they can keep cooling your home efficiently.
Therefore, if you forget to schedule your regular air conditioner maintenance, it is possible that your evaporator coil is covered with dirt or debris, which might prevent it from blowing cool air.
- Your compressor may be defective
Your compressor of the air conditioner is such an important part and this unit needs the most of the electricity to run. An aging or defective compressor may pull more and more electricity every year.
Finally, the aged compressor may trip your breaker by drawing too much current, which may end up blowing warm air.
- Your condenser fan must have failed
This condenser fan in the outdoor unit will send the heat from your coil outside. If there is any problem with it, your condenser will overheat and try to shut down by its safety mechanism, to prevent any air conditioner system damage.
If this happens, then your coil cannot extract the warm air from the house. As a result, your condenser fan will be responsible for your AC not supplying cold air!
