PARQUET FLOORING EXPERIMENT: GOOD OR BAD?

Patrick Witcher January 30, 2023January 30, 2023

Introduction

If you’re looking to update your home, parquet flooring  can be a great addition. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but it also adds character and warmth to your living space. But before you decide to give parquet flooring a try in your home, there are some things to consider. Parquet flooring may not be for everyone depending on the type of environment you live in and the amount of traffic it will receive. In this blog post, we’ll explore the pros and cons of installing parquet flooring in your home and when it might be a good or bad idea for you.

What is parquet flooring?

Parquet flooring is a type of wood flooring that is made up of individual pieces of wood, called parquets that are arranged in a geometric pattern. Parquet flooring has been around for centuries and was created as a way to use up small pieces of wood that were left over from other projects. Today, parquet flooring is still made from small pieces of wood, but it is also available in laminate and vinyl versions.

Parquet flooring can add beauty and value to your home, but it can be a bit tricky to install and care for. If you’re considering parquet flooring for your home, here’s what you need to know about this unique type of flooring.

How Parquet Flooring is made

When it comes to parquet flooring, the process is much more involved than simply nailing down some wood planks. The word “parquet” actually comes from the French word for “a small compartment” or “a square.” So, when you see a beautiful parquet floor, know that a lot of time, effort, and precision went into creating that work of art.

To make parquet flooring, artisans start with hardwood lumber that has been kiln-dried to reduce its moisture content. Next, they cut the lumber into strips that are about three inches wide and then use a machine to score the strips in a crosshatch pattern. This scoring helps the strips interlock with each other when they are glued together.

Once the strips are scored, the artisan arranges them into patterns and then glues them together. After the glue dries, a sander smooths out the surface of the parquet flooring. The final step is applying a stain or sealer to protect the wood and give it a beautiful shine.

Good points about parquet flooring

There are several good points to parquet flooring, including its durability, low maintenance requirements, and aesthetic appeal. Parquet flooring is also a good choice for homes with pets or children because it is easy to clean and does not show dirt or stains as easily as other types of flooring.

Bad points of parquet flooring

There are a few bad points to parquet flooring that should be considered before making a final decision. One is that the individual pieces can be difficult to install, and it’s important to make sure they are installed correctly to avoid any issues later on. Additionally, parquet flooring can be more expensive than other types of flooring, so it’s important to compare prices and weigh all options before making a purchase. Finally, parquet floors can be susceptible to scratches and scuffs, so they may not be the best option for high-traffic areas or homes with animals.
